When one adventure sport simply isn’t enough for you adrenaline junkies, try a whole gamut of them within six hours!
Most of us know Singapore’s best kept secrets – where to find the best barbequed stingray for a steal; Queensway Shopping Centre sells sports goods cheap; and Sim Lim is the place to go for electronics. After all, we’re a nation known mostly for good food and great shopping. Which is why I’m sure many of us will be surprised to know that when it comes to adventure sports, even our tiny isle holds plenty of potential.
Come Saturday September 18, 2010, the Ace Adventure Challenge returns for its sixth year. For the uninitiated, the Ace Adventure Challenge is an adventure race with teams of three competing in a series of outdoor obstacles, accumulating points and racing against the clock.

These outdoor obstacles include disciplines such as trail running, mountain biking, navigation, rope ascending, water-based activities, and other challenges that are kept secret from the participants. In an adventure race, adaptability is key, and the most seasoned participants are able to tackle variable conditions on the fly.
The Ace Adventure Challenge is perhaps the most popular locally-organised adventure race, and draws a loyal yearly following. This year, participants will cover a distance of up to 55KM, and race into the night, with the event estimated to run from 2.30pm to 10pm. The race may sound grueling, but there is also plenty of addictive fun – just ask the repeat participants who brave the multi-disciplinary race each year. Still, you do not need to be the bionic man or superwoman in order to participate, although it definitely helps to get some prior experience in as many adventure disciplines as you can, to prepare yourself physically and mentally. Each year, the race draws a significant number of novice participants, eager to cut their teeth on this popular event.
There are three race categories: Men’s, Mixed and Women’s, with the cut-off time for all categories set at six hours. To register online, and for complete details of the event, as well as tips to prepare for the race, visit the event web page at http://aceadventurechallenge.blogspot.com.
Registration opens this week, on August 1 2010, and closes on August 15 2010.
