Interview with Raffy Aspier, lead vocal and band leader for Jive Talkin.
How long have the core members of the band been together now?
18 years.
After all this time, how do you keep it fresh so that you dont get bored?
As long as we dont have to get up in the morning and do a 9 to 5 job, well never get bored entertaining.
Has the band ever jammed with anyone famous in the past?
Yes the band has performed together with some of the world's most famous music makers, including B.B. King, Kenny G, Gloria Estefan & the Miami Sound Machine, James Ingram and Def Leppard.
Whats your most-requested song?
Believe it or not, its ABBAs Dancing Queen.
You have a great crowd at Pump Room every night. Do you get very drained having to entertain every night?
It helps a lot when youve got so many good singers in the band. But really, as long as you enjoy what youre doing, you wont feel drained.
What do you enjoy most about playing at Pump?
The crowd theyre party animals and sing to almost every song we sing.
How do you choose songs? Do you have a particular person that does this job?
Most of the time its me. We look at all the requests and try to cover whatever we can they tend to be mostly retro songs.
Who was your favourite artist 10 years ago and who is it now?
Luther Vandross from then till now.
If you could sit and have a beer and a chat with anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?
That would be Luther again.
Jeffrey certainly provides the eye candy for the band. Any reason why youve stuck to being an all-male band?
No menses period hehehe.
What can you see in the future for the band?
Rock on till we die!
